Christian Rizzo Shines in EDF Foundation’s “Dans(e) la lumière” with New Choreographic Creation

French choreographer Christian Rizzo, awarded the FEDORA – VAN CLEEF & ARPELS Prize for Ballet 2016 for his work Le Syndrome Ian, is captivating audiences once again as part of the EDF Foundation’s Dans(e) la lumière programme, a unique cultural initiative highlighting dance and visual installations, running until January 31, 2026.

His work Le Syndrome Ian, winner of the FEDORA – VAN CLEEF & ARPELS Prize for Ballet 2016, was a groundbreaking piece that brought club-inspired movement into a concert dance setting, uniting nine dancers and live musicians in a communal, kinetic experience. The performance explored collective rhythms, improvisation, and the energy of anonymous dance practices, transforming the stage into a space of shared physicality and musical interplay.
The FEDORA - VAN CLEEF & ARPELS Dance Prize is supported by Van Cleef & Arpels, in collaboration with Opera Europa. The FEDORA Prizes competition is co-funded by the Creative Europe Programme of the European Union.
For this edition of Dans(e) la lumière, Rizzo presents 100% polyester, objet dansant n° (à définir), a unique collaboration with visual artist Caty Olive. The work blends dance, costume, sound, and light into a single immersive experience, exploring movement and presence in the absence of the human body. Inspired by ephemeral phenomena, from the sway of curtains in a quiet afternoon to the notion of individual ghosts, and by the writings of Paul Virilio, the piece invites audiences into a contemplative and almost hypnotic encounter. Each performance adapts the object-dance to the architecture of the space, making every showing a unique, site-specific experience.
Rizzo’s contribution highlights his long-standing fascination with the interplay between body, space, and perception. Known for pushing the boundaries of contemporary dance, he uses movement, even when the human body is absent, as a medium to explore gestures, spatial relationships, and visual composition, creating performances that are visually striking and emotionally resonant.
With only a few days left to catch the performance, until 31 January 2026, Rizzo’s EDF presentation is an unmissable opportunity to witness a master choreographer at the height of his craft, redefining the possibilities of contemporary dance in dialogue with light and space.

The EDF Group Foundation once again celebrates the meeting of dance and light, two powerful means of artistic expression and emancipation. Performances, choreographies, and exhibitions come together to explore movement in all its forms.
